The Accademia Carrara of Bergamo opens the doors of the Palazzo della Ragione to Sandro Botticelli.
The Portrait of Giuliano de Medici, the Vir dolorum, and the Story of Virginia returned to the public after the restoration work that brought them back to their original splendor. Through the paintings of the Accademia Carrara on exhibition from July 27 until November 4, 2012, it is possible to see the style of Botticelli under a new light. The application allows the exploration of the paintings with some insights related to their genesis, in comparison with other restorations carried out recently. The visitor can thus discover little-known historical events and reconstruct the episodes of the three intricate paintings:
• The Portrait of Giuliano de Medici and the intrigues of power
• The Vir dolorum and the enigma of the Mater Dolorosa
• Story of Virginia, a story of violence and honor
The application proposes an overview of the work through video and text with image galleries. Particular emphasis is given to the restoration with a rich photographic documentation; over 40 high resolution images through which the visitor can explore in detail the art works before and after the interventions. It is perfect for connoisseurs of the Accademia Carrara, and for those who want to learn about Bergamo through its artistic treasures.
